January 25th, Eastridge Center celebrated the grand opening of their new teen center, hosted by San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services. Located in the Eastridge Community Wing & Community Room, the event was attended by more than seventy-five teens ages 13 to 17.

Sylvia Arenas, councilwoman for San Jose City Council District 8, gave opening ceremony remarks before attendees enjoyed free roller skating at Aloha Roller Rink, bowling at Round1, a DJ in the Community Wing, and activities in the Community Room including ping pong, corn hole, video games, DIY slime, arts and crafts, and even pizza and snacks! The event was a successful kickoff for the Teen Center, which will be open every Friday and Saturday from 4-9pm.

“Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services Evergreen Community Center takes great pride in opening the first Teen Center program at Eastridge Center. This program provides youth with a safe place to engage with one another in fun, free social activities,” says Leticia Espino, Recreation Supervisor for Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services.

Made possible through an ongoing partnership with Parks and Recreation, additional 2019 activities offered at Eastridge Center include weekly piano and guitar lessons, a Senior Stroll Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10-11am, and Daily Stretch for active adults on Wednesday mornings from 8:30-9:30am. A new one-week youth camp will be hosted in the Community Room starting President’s Day, February 18.

“The team at Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services Evergreen Community Center has been an outstanding partner in bringing this new Teen Center and full calendar of community programming to life. Eastridge has been a gathering place for 48 years; the completed 2018 remodel and murals project were only the beginning of a commitment to investing in our local community through events, public art, and innovative partnerships like this,” says Rah Riley, Eastridge Center Marketing Manager.

Registration is open for all Eastridge Center community programs at sjregistration.com and eastridgecenter.com.
